  • US: DREDGING TO BEGIN IN PONCE DE LEON INLET

    Maintenance dredging of Ponce de Leon Inlet is scheduled to begin April 11 and provides an interim solution to sand deposited in the inlet by Hurricane Matthew. Dredging keeps the channel open for safe navigation for as long as possible through summer 2017.

    P&O Ports,owned by the Government of Dubai, has won a 30-year concession for the management and development of a multi-purpose port project at Bosasso in the Puntland State of Somalia. The approximate investment for the modern multi-purpose facility will be USD $ 336m (approx. AED 1.235b) divided into two phases: USD $136 million (approx. AED500m) for Phase 1 and USD$ 200 million (approx. 745m) for phase 2.

  • Damen completes repair work on Jan de Nul vessels

    Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC) recently completed work in Vlissingen and Brest on two vessels in the fleet of dredging and marine construction specialist Jan de Nul Group. The first is Vole au vent, a 140m jack-up vessel built specifically for the installation of the latest generation of offshore wind turbines; the second is the trailing suction hopper dredger Leiv Eiriksson.

    China and the countries surrounding the South China Sea should set up a cooperation mechanism to boost exchanges in efforts ranging from disaster relief to safety of navigation, a senior diplomat said in comments reported on Monday.
