Great Lakes Maritime Academy cadets can now take their firefighting class close to home after years of traveling to Toledo, Ohio, for the mandatory course.
Amidst the current difficult times faced by the maritime industry, the Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union (SMOU) continues to be proactive. SMOU will contribute S$1.2 million to local shipping companies to encourage them to provide training berths for Singaporean seafaring cadets in the Tripartite Nautical Training Award and Tripartite Engineering Training Award Programmes (TNTA & TETA).

MITAGS-PMI has established its latest Navigation Skills Assessment Program (NSAP) training centre in Mumbai, on the campus of the Anglo-Eastern Maritime Training Centre (AEMTC), one of India’s leading maritime institutes. NSAP uses navigational simulators to objectively measure mariner skill compliance against internationally accepted STCW standards. It focuses specifically on the core skills required of licensed deck officers and includes a one-on-one discussion about the specific skills of each mariner assessed by the program.
