Race to zero carbon emissions: Why hybrid propulsion systems in marine vessels matter?

English

Over the years, sustainability has pushed many players and stakeholders in the maritime industry to explore ways to reduce their carbon footprint without sacrificing comfort and functionality. The rising rollout of hybrid propulsion systems in marine vessels is one of the ways that the sector has responded to calls for stricter carbon emission monitoring within the community.

Al Masaood Group is at the forefront when it comes to offering sustainable hybrid solutions to the UAE and the region. Al Masaood’s sustainability commitment plays an integral role in its overall approach to growth and success, thus fuelling its desire to forge alliances with global brands with active sustainability initiatives.

Highlighting the role of hybrid systems

One of the Group’s business units, Al Masaood Power Division, is actively seeking to highlight the role of hybrid systems in the global sustainability movement. During the recently held Seatrade Maritime Middle East exhibition and conference in Dubai, Al Masaood Power displayed a range of sustainable engines for the UAE’s maritime industry.

During the course of the event, Al Masaood demonstrated its latest offerings in propulsion engines and systems manufactured by the division’s global partner brands such as MTU, Nidec Leroy-Somer, and Volvo Penta, for the maritime industry.

Al Masaood’s contribution towards the industry comes after its partnership with RIBCRAFT ME, which saw both parties collaborating to introduce the first hybrid RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) to the UAE market. Equipped with the latest technologies for efficient power consumption and lower emissions, the hybrid RIB can seamlessly switch between electric motors and Volvo Penta diesel engines.

Facilitating the growth of the UAE’s maritime industry

As an expert in the power and marine sectors, Al Masaood Power is well-positioned to bring the benefits of hybrid systems to the forefront. Amongst other accomplishments, it holds a unique position in the market for launching the first hybrid propulsion system commissioned in the UAE.

As a major player and contributor to the development of the region’s maritime industry, the division will continue to work towards bolstering the UAE’s pioneering role as a global maritime hub through its power solutions and complete lifecycle support. Moreover, this endeavour is aligned with the Group’s goal to continuously grow with the nation in the next 50 years and beyond.
